Frankfurt RheinMain has been a sought-after location for Korean companies for many years and, with around 14,000 Koreans living here, is home to the largest Korean business community in Europe. These are advantages that the globally active technology group Doosan Robotics has also recognised. The company, a subsidiary of the South Korean Doosan Group, specialises in collaborative robot systems and industrial automation solutions. As a first step, around 20 new jobs are being created in Mörfelden-Walldorf, and the site will be complemented by a sales area with a warehouse to support the expansion of its European operations.
The establishment of Doosan Robotics was made possible with the support of FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH International Marketing of the Region (FRM GmbH), the Groß-Gerau District Economic Development Agency and the Mörfelden-Walldorf Economic Development Agency.
Thomas Will, District Administrator of Groß-Gerau and member of the Supervisory Board of FRM GmbH: “The establishment of Doosan Robotics underlines the growing importance of the Frankfurt RheinMain region as a hub for robotics and automation technologies, whilst also demonstrating the high international competitiveness of the business location. In the region, manufacturers, system providers and specialist service providers bring together key functions such as management, sales, engineering and development. Highly innovative companies from future-oriented sectors such as robotics find here not only excellent economic conditions, but also a closely integrated network of business, science and administration.”
Specialising in collaborative robotics and industrial automation
Doosan Robotics was founded in Suwon, South Korea, in 2015 and is a subsidiary of the Doosan Group. The company develops and markets automation solutions for a range of industrial applications and specialises in particular in collaborative robots. Doosan Robotics employs around 300 people worldwide and generates a turnover of 30 million euros.
“With our new location in the Frankfurt RheinMain region, we are establishing a strong foundation for the further expansion of our European operations. The region offers us the ideal conditions to successfully serve our customers in Germany and Europe and to continue growing,” says Michael Seungbak Ryu, Branch Manager at Doosan Robotics Europe.
Doosan Robotics Europe has relocated its European office from Düsseldorf to Mörfelden-Walldorf and, at the same time, integrated the European service centre – previously based in the Netherlands – into the new site. Several strategic location factors were decisive in this decision. These include excellent transport links and central accessibility within Europe, as the new site serves as the European headquarters. The concentration of international trade fairs, industry events and diverse networking opportunities, which foster intensive professional exchange, also convinced the company of the Frankfurt RheinMain location’s merits. Access to skilled workers is a further argument in favour of establishing the business in Mörfelden-Walldorf.
In the current year, Doosan Robotics plans to recruit four additional staff members in the Frankfurt RheinMain region. The site is set to be expanded further in stages over the coming years.
“When a company such as Doosan is setting up operations, the presence of other Korean companies in the region is a factor that should not be underestimated, as it facilitates exchange and benchmarking. Frankfurt RheinMain is home to the largest Korean community in Europe; from a Korean perspective, the region is the most attractive location in Germany. All Korean financial institutions operating in Germany are headquartered in Frankfurt, and almost all major Korean conglomerates have their German and European headquarters in the region. “More than 250 Korean companies are already based in Frankfurt Rhine-Main – and the trend is still rising. And around half of all Korean direct investment in Germany is concentrated in our region,” says Eric Menges, CEO of FRM GmbH.
FRM GmbH has been in contact with Doosan Robotics since 2023 and supported the company throughout the entire relocation process. The support included advice on location and settlement issues, as well as active assistance in the search for a suitable property. The aim was to find a location that would meet the company’s long-term growth plans. Doosan Robotics will continue to be supported by the economic development agencies of the Groß-Gerau district and the town of Mörfelden-Walldorf.
